GAUGE:
15 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row) When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
kfb (knit in front and back) Knit the next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.

NOTES:
1.

Shawl is worked in one piece, with shaping on each half.

The first half leans diagonally in one direction and the 2nd half leans diagonally in the other direction to create a "V" shape that will lay comfortably on your shoulders.

2.

An increase is worked at the beginning and a decrease at the end of every other row in each half of Shawl.

The increase and decrease balance each other, so the stitch count remains the same.

3.

The Shawl is worked in Garter st (k every row), so is reversible.

4.

Slip sts as if to purl.
