GAUGE:
2 Crocodile sts (see pattern for explanation) = about 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
Edc (extended double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop on hook, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

V-st (V-stitch) (Edc, ch 1, Edc) in indicated st.

Crocodile st Note: Each Crocodile st is worked over 2 Edc sts.

Rotate piece so that you can work around the post of the last Edc made (this is the 2nd Edc of a V-st), work 6 Edc around the post of the last Edc made, ch 1, rotate piece so that you can work around the post of the next Edc (this is the 1st Edc of the same V-st), work 6 Edc around the post of the next Edc.

NOTES:
1.

Shawl is worked from lower back point upwards in Crocodile and V-sts.

Sts are increased on each to create a triangle.

2.

Rows of V-sts are alternated with rows of Crocodile sts.

3.

Crocodile sts are made by working sts around the post of sts in the previous row.

4.

The piece is NOT turned at the beg of rows.

Instead, at the beginning of EACH row, rotate the piece, keeping the RS facing you, so that you work back and forth across the RS of the piece.

5.

A charm or button is sewed to the Shawl and can be pulled through the sts to fasten the Shawl.
