GAUGE:
14 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in rnds (k every rnd). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCH K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds (multiple of 4 sts) Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds.

NOTES:
1.

Leg of Stocking is worked in rnds on double-pointed needles beg at top of leg.

2.

When instructed to work with C, use colors as desired.

3.

Heel Flap begins by working over 24 sts, one half of the total sts of the leg.

The remaining 24 sts are for the top of foot (instep).

4.

The heel is turned by working short rows over a portion of the heel flap sts.

To work short rows, the instructions will tell you to "turn" before you reach the end of the row.

When you turn, leave the rem sts unworked.

5.

Work continues in rnds for the foot.

On Rnd 1 of the foot, you will work over the 12 rem sts of the heel, then pick up sts across side edge of the heel, work the 24 instep sts, and pick up sts across the other side edge of the heel, to prepare to work in rnds again.
