GAUGE:
18 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) with larger needles. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.

K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (multiple of 2 sts) Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.

NOTES:
1.

Mittens are worked in one piece in the round on double pointed needles, with a slightly tighter gauge to produce a sturdy fabric.

2.

Cuffs are worked in rib, then remainder of Mitten is worked in St st worked in rnds (k every rnd).

3.

Thumbs are placed to create a left and a right Mitten.

4.

Contrast color thread or yarn is used to mark the position of the flip top.

5.

Flip top and thumb are worked onto completed Mitten.
