GAUGE:
12 sts + 18 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle.

Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.

NOTES:
1.

Afghan is made from 30 Squares worked by following a Diagram.

Sts for new Squares are picked up across one edge of a previous Square.

This reduces the number of edges to be seamed later.

2.

Each Square has 3 stripes with a sl st pattern between stripes.

3.

With yarn in front (wyif) refers to the side of the work facing you as you work the row; with yarn in back (wyib) refers to the side of the work that is away from you as you work the row.

To move yarn from front to back or back to front, bring yarn between needles.

Take care not to wrap yarn over a needle, this could create an additional st.
