GAUGE:
One Granny Square = 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

NOTES:
Hat is made from 8 Granny Squares joined to make a rectangle, then crocheted together to make Hat.

HAT Arrange the Granny Squares into a rectangle of 2 rows of 4 squares each.

Hold 2 Squares with WS together (so RS of each Square is facing out) and join B with a sl st at beg of one edge.

Working through both thicknesses, sc evenly across to join Squares.

Continue to join edges in this manner, fastening off and rejoining B as needed, until all edges have been joined.

In same way, join ends of this rectangle to make a ring.

Lower Edge Trim With the RS facing, join B with sl st anywhere along one edge of ring, sc evenly around edge; join with sl st in first sc.

Fasten off.

Top Trim Working along opposite edge of ring, work as for Lower Edge Trim.

At top of Hat, bring 4 crocheted joining 'seams' together and secure with a few sts.

Note that open spaces will remain at top of Hat.
