GAUGE:
1 ripple = about 5 1/2 in. (14 cm). 10 sc = about 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:
1.

Hat is worked in two parts: Band and Crown (Top of Hat).

Band is worked back and forth in rows.

Ends of Band are sewn together to form a ring.

Crown is worked in joined rnds beginning around one long edge of Band.

2.

A ripple crochet pattern is used in Band.

The ripple pattern is easy to do, but it's important to remember that you may need to work several rows before the ripple pattern becomes clear.

3.

The color is changed every 6 rows/rnds.

To change color when working Band, work last st of old color to last yarn over.

Yarn over with new color and draw through all sts on hook to complete st.

Proceed with new color.

Fasten off old color.

To change color when working Crown, fasten off old color and join new color as instructed.
