GAUGE:
13 sc + 17 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

sc3tog (sc 3 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook – 2 sts decreased.

NOTES:
1.

Hat is worked in joined and turned rnds, beg at lower edge.

2.

To change color, work last st with old color to last yarn over.

Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st.

Proceed with new color.

Fasten off old color.

3.

If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Leaving a long beg tail, ch 65, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; join with sl st in first sc -- 64 sc.

Use beg tail to sew gap at base of first row closed.

Proceed to Rnd 2.
