Additional Materials
Circular knitting needle size 9 (5.5 mm), 40 in. (101.5 cm) long
GAUGE:
16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (knit every row). 1 Square = about 11 x 11 in. (28 x 28 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.

yo (yarn over) An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows: 1.

Bring yarn to front, between the needles.

2.

Take yarn to back, over the right needle.

This creates the new st.

You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

NOTES:
1.

Afghan is made of 20 Squares, each worked in Garter stitch (knit every row).

Each Square is worked diagonally beginning at one corner.

Stitches are increased and then decreased to make each Square.

2.

The Increase Half of each Square is worked in color A and the Decrease Half is worked in a Stripe Sequence.

3.

Squares are sewn together and then stitches are picked up to work a Border along each side of Afghan.

4.

A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts of Border sections.

Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
