Sewing needle and matching thread
GAUGE:
8 sc + 6.5 rows = 4" [10 cm] with CC on larger hook.
13 sts + 13 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Overlay pattern with MC on smaller hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.
INSTRUCTIONS
BAG
LINER
Starting at bottom edge, with larger hook and B, ch 21.
Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 20 sc.
Rows 2-29 Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.
Mark center 2 sts of last row. Fasten off.
OVERLAY
Starting at bottom edge, with smaller hook and A, ch 32.
Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 2, skip next 2 ch, sc innext ch; repeat from * across; turn - 10 ch2-spaces.
Rows 2-58 Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 2, skip next ch2-space, sc in nextsc; repeat from * across; turn.
Fasten off.
ASSEMBLY
Rnd 1 With WS of Overlay and Liner facing, Overlay side up, work throughdouble thickness with larger hook: Join B in top left corner, ch 1, work acrossside, sc in first row-end st of both layers, work through every other row-end stof Overlay and of Liner, sc across side edge, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner; workacross bottom, sc evenly across, work 2 sc in each ch2-space of Overlay intoeach corresponding ch of Liner foundation, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner; work acrossother side through every other row-end st of Overlay of Liner, sc across sideedge, (sc, ch 2, sc) in top right corner; work across top edge, sc across tofirst marked st, ch 14, slip st in 10th ch from hook, ch 4 for button loop, scin remaining sts of top, ch 2; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
Fold Bag in half, with Overlay on outside. Sew button centered on Front tocorrespond with loop, 2" [5 cm] below top edge.
STRAP/SIDES
Note This piece will serve as both the sides of the Bag and as the Strap.
With larger hook and B, ch 70.
Rnd 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across to end, 3 sc in lastch; work across opposite side of foundation ch, sc in each ch across, 2 sc inlast ch; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
FINISHING
With Bag folded, Overlay on outside, position Strap/Sides piece on eitherside between side edges, ends at fold, do not to twist (pin for easier sewing).With large-eyed, blunt needle and B, sew one end of Strap to each side, workingfrom top opening, down to fold, around, and back up on each side. Fold Strap inhalf at center, sew sides of Strap together 3" [7.5 cm] at top below fold.
