GAUGE:
10 sc + 5.5 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] with MC. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

SCARF FIRST SIDE With MC, ch 172. Row 1 (RS) Dc in 6th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * across; turn - 84 ch1-spaces. Fasten off MC. Row 2 With WS facing, join CC in first dc, ch 1, sc in first dc, *sc in next ch1-space, ch 1, skip next dc; repeat from * across, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch; turn - 83 ch1-spaces. Fasten off CC. Row 3 With RS facing, join MC in first sc, ch 4, *dc in next ch1-space, ch 1, skip next sc; repeat from * across, dc in last sc; turn - 84 ch1-spaces. Fasten off MC. Rows 4-5 Repeat Rows 2-3. Fasten off. SECOND SIDE Row 1 With WS facing, working across opposite side of foundation ch, join CC in first ch, ch 1, sc in same ch, *sc in next ch1-space, ch 1, skip next ch at base of dc; repeat from * across, sc in last ch; turn - 83 ch1-spaces. Fasten off CC. Rows 2-4 Repeat Rows 3-5 of First Side. BORDER Round 1 With RS facing, join CC in first ch1-space in last row of either side, ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in each ch1-space across to next corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in each row-end st across short edge to next corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner dc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
