GAUGE:

Each Square = approx 6.4 in. x 6.4 in. Each Section = approx 12 in. x 12 in. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

NOTE: Following instructions, make 48 basic squares. Then follow the assembly diagram for the throw of your choice.

BASIC SQUARE (make 48): With A, ch 17.
Row 1: With A, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 16 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: With A, sc in each of first 15 sc; with B, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: With B, sc in each of first 2 sc; with A, sc in each of next 14 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: With A, sc in each of first 13 sc; with B, sc in each of next 3 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: With B, sc in each of first 4 sc; with A, sc in each of next 12 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: With A, sc in each of first 11 sc; with B, sc in each of next 5 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 7: With B, sc in each of first 6 sc; with A, sc in each of next 10 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8: With A, sc in each of first 9 sc; with B, sc in each of next 7 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 9: With B, sc in each of first 8 sc; with A, sc in each of next 8 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 10: With A, sc in each of first 7 sc; with B, sc in each of next 9 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 11: With B, sc in each of first 10 sc; with A, sc in each of next 6 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Lion Brand Online Stitch Counter

THROW: Make 48 basic squares. Following assembly diagram for the throw of your choice, sew squares together.

There are four possible orientations of the squares.   These are designated as square 1, 2, 3 or 4

  1. In square 1, the square is oriented so that the left and top edges are the 'A' color and the right and bottom edges are the 'B' color.

  2. In square 2, the square is oriented so that the top and right edges are the 'A' color and the left and bottom edges are the 'B' color.

  3. In square 3, the square is oriented so that the right and bottom edges are the 'A' color and the left and top edges are the 'B' color.

  4. In square 4, the square is oriented so that the bottom and left edges are the 'A' color and the top and right edges are the 'B' color.

The eight different appearances are made by combining the squares in different orders as shown below.
