GAUGE:
10 sc and 11 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in single crochet. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Diagonal Pattern Baby Blanket Reviewed by Becca on 2009-08-02
I liked this pattern a lot, but my only qualm with it is that three balls was not enough. I didn't have enough yarn for the edge even though my gauge was correct-the finished product measured 33x33 inches. I have had this same problem with more than one of the patterns on this site, which I suppose just means that I must buy an extra ball of yarn. Other than that, the finished product looks like the picture.
