Crochet Fringed Throw

Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

10 sts = 4" [10 cm] BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

LOOP STITCH
Step 1 Using the index finger on the left hand to control the lp size (which should be approximately 1½"), hold yarn over finger 1½" behind work; insert the hook in st, hook both strands of lp just made, draw these strands through st.

Step 2 Wrap the supply yarn over the hook (yo).

Step 3 Draw through all lps on hook-1 lp st made.

NOTES:

Loop Stitch (lp st) is a variation of single crochet (sc) and is worked on the wrong-side rows because the lps form at the back of the fabric.

Editor’s Note: When creating fringe using Homespun please note that because of the texture of the yarn the fringe will fray when cut. If you prefer a non-frayed look you can knot the ends, knit or crochet a fringe, or use hairspray or fray check.

THROW
Ch 98.

Row 1 (Right side) Dc in 4th ch from hook (starting ch 3 counts as 1 dc), dc in next ch and in each to end (96 dc).

Row 2 Ch 1; turn; sc in first 2 sts, 1 lp st in each of next 4 sts, * 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 1 lp st in each of next 4 sts, repeat from * across, end sc in last 2 sts including top of turning ch.

Row 3 Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), turn, skip first sc (below ch-3), dc in next st and in each st, and lp st to end.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern until throw measures approximately 50". Fasten off.

BORDER
Join yarn with sl st in any corner, *sc evenly across to next corner, 3 sc in corner; repeat from * around, sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

LOOP FRINGE EDGING (make 2)
Ch 97.

Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across (96 sc). * Brace a 5" x 5" strip of cardboard (strip) behind the work with left hand, insert hook in next st, transfer strip to right hand and take yarn around strip front to back, draw up a lp, yo, draw yarn through 2 lps; repeat from * to end of row, sliding lps off and moving strip forward as it becomes filled. Sew a loop fringe edging to top and bottom of throw.

Crochet Fringed Throw Reviewed by Pam Stoneburg on 2012-01-10 *****
I'm so glad I found this pattern on your website. I have made no less than a dozen of these afghans as gifts. It is easy, economical, and SOOOO cozy. Made one for my sister and her three teenagers would fight over it! Went looking for the yarn wrapper I have carefully kept for the past several years and it was nowhere to be found.
