GAUGE:

12 sts + 7 rows = 5 inches (12.7 cm) in plaid pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

Afghan is worked in one piece with horizontal stripes; vertical stripes are worked later over ch1-spaces.

BLANKET
With MC, ch 88.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in 4th and 5th ch from hook, (ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next 3 ch, ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next 10 ch) 5 times, (ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next 3 ch) twice.

Row 2 Ch 3, turn -- counts as first dc, skip first dc, dc in next 2 dc, (ch 1, dc in next 3 dc, ch 1, dc in next 10 dc) 5 times, (ch 1, dc in next 3 dc) twice.

Drop MC, change to A.

Rep Row 2 in following color sequence: (4 rows A, 2 rows MC, 4 rows B, 2 rows MC) 4 times, then work 4 rows A, 2 rows MC. DO NOT FASTEN OFF MC.

Plaid Baby Blanket Reviewed by Julie Allen on 2009-05-15 *****
Made this for my 4 year old nephew. I used a different yarn with two strands held together, I also used a size M hook (2 sizes bigger) and I added 30 stitches. I also did the hdc stitch around the edge instead of a single crochet. It turned into an adult size throw. My nephew loves it, its bright bold and only took me a few days to make!
