GAUGE:
11 sts = 3 inches; 8 rows = 5 inches in pat. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

INSTRUCTIONS
SHAWL:
Ch 8. Row 1: 1 dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. Row 2: Ch 5, 1 dc in first dc, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in 4th ch of t-ch, ch 1, 1 dc in same st. Turn. Row 3: Ch 5, (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in first st, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next dc; rep from * across to t-ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in 4th ch of t-ch. Turn. Row 4: Ch 5, 1 dc in first dc, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next dc; rep from * to t-ch, end ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in 4th ch of t-ch, ch 1, 1 dc in same st. Turn. Rows 5-58: Rep Rows 3 & 4. Fasten off.
Fringe: Wind a single strand of yarn around a 6 inches piece of cardboard. Cut at one end, making 12 inches long strands. Using 3 strands per fringe, fold strands of yarn in half to form a loop, insert hook through back of work, drawing loop through, then bring ends through loop and tighten. Attach one fringe to point at center back and one fringe on each side, then one fringe in end of each row along lower edges. Trim fringe evenly.
