GAUGE:

16 sc = 4 inches (10 cm) with larger hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Rnd 4 Ch 1, *1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, rep from * to * around – 28 sc.

BRIM

Next Rnd Ch 1, *1 sc in each of next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, rep from * to * around – 108 sc. Work even in sc for 1".
Next Rnd Ch 1, *1 sc in each of next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, rep from * to * around – 120 sc. Work even in sc for 1¼".
Change to size F hook. Work 1 rnd sc to tighten brim. Fasten off.

I have made several of these hats using the school colors. I start with one color at the crown then change it about round 7 and finish it with the second color until you reach the brim then change back to the first color. Everyone loves these hats.
