GAUGE:
14 sc + 14 rnds = 4 inches (10 cm) with MC. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

HAT With MC, ch 3. Join with slip st to form ring. Rnd 1 Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join with slip st to top of beg sc. Rnd 2 Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 16 sts. Rnd 3 Ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 24 sts. Rnd 4 Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 32 sts. Rnd 5 Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 40 sts. Rnd 6 Ch 1, (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 48 sts. Rnd 7 Ch 1, (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 56 sts. Rnd 8 Ch 1, (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 64 sts. Size Adult only Rnd 9 Ch 1, (sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 72 sts. Rnd 10 Ch 1, (sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join with slip st to top of beg sc - 80 sts. Sizes Child and Adult Work 13 (17) rnds even in sc over these 64 (80) sts, turning work after each rnd. Fasten off. Attach CC at last join with ch 3; work 4 (5) rnds even in dc, turning work after each rnd. Fasten off. FINISHING Follow directions on Lion Brand Pompom Maker or Wrap CC around a 1 1/4 inches piece of cardboard 25 times. Slip yarn from cardboard and tie tightly in middle (do not cut ends) to form a loopy pompom. Attach to top center of Hat. Weave in ends.
