GAUGE:
2 shells + 3 rows = 2 inches [5 cm] over Shell pattern (Rnds 8-10) When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

NOTES:
The shaping of this hat seems unusual but will ultimately make hat as photographed.

Rnds 1-5 and Rnd 11 are increase rnds.

Shells made in Rnds 3-5 and Rnd 11 will not be perfectly staggered, in order to accommodate increases.

In Rnds 5-10, shells will always be made in sc of previous rnd and scs will always be in center dc of shell in previous rnd.
