Felted Loopy Tote Bag
Lion Brand® Fishermen's Wool®
GAUGE: 14.5 stitches = 4" [10 cm] in stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) on larger needle before felting. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
|
|
BAG
With larger needles, cast on 90 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch for
40" (101.5 cm). Bind off. Fold in half widthwise with wrong sides together.
Using crochet hook, slip stitch side seams together.
Ruffles
With double-pointed needles, cast on 6 stitches. *Slide stitches to other
end of double-pointed needle and knit them, pulling yarn tightly across the back
of the work. (Do not turn work.) Repeat from * until cord measures 20 feet (6
m). With crochet hook, use slip stitch to attach cord around opening of Bag,
making the loops approximately 6–7" (15–18 cm) long.
Felting
Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several
pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular
setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and lay flat to shape. For
more about felting, click here.
Finishing
Thread large-eyed, blunt needle with yarn and sew handles securely to top of
Bag. Fold lower corners up as shown and tack in place. Cut ribbon in half and
glue to center points at top of Bag. Tie in bow. |

| Felted Loopy Tote Bag Reviewed by CATHY AMBERSON on 2011-05-24 |
    |
| I made this pattern a few years ago and loved it. I didn't think it was too big/wide, the picture does show a generous width. I pinned the loops around the top to get the right amount of loopiness prior to tacking down. Also one other modification---I made this a shoulder bag and used some wide woven 'stuff' I found in the ribbon section (it wasn't ribbon but have no idea what to call it).
