FINISHING
Optional Belt
If belt is desired, Cast On (10) stitches, Knit for 50 inches. Bind Off.
Hood
With a double strand of yarn, crochet a chain approximately 60 inches [152.5 cm] long
for a drawstring for hood or braid (3) strands together for a drawstring.
Sew the back seam edges of hood so that the hood shapes over the head.
Placing the drawstring-Roll face edge of hood over drawstring and sew loosely creating a rolled
tunnel for the drawstring to slip thru.
Assemble all parts of sweater starting with shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Make one continuous
seam from cuff of sleeve to bottom hemline of coat. Leave opening in side seam where you want the
pocket to be placed approx. 6 in., (7, 7) inch [15 (18, 18) cm] opening.
Place hood onto neckline of coat, lining up the front edges and ease into the neckline. Be sure
to leave the drawstring edge free from seam.
Add your choice of coordinating buttons. Sew buttons onto coat with matching yarn, leaving a ‘finger
width’ spacing under the button. Use the extra yarn to wrap around the yarn that holds the button.
Knot on back side of coat edge. This spacing under the button will allow the bulky knit of coat to
lay flat after the coat is buttoned.
Pockets:
Cut some coordinating fabric like flannel or jersey knit to form a pocket. This should be (4) pieces
approx 8 in x 10 in [20 cm x 25 cm]. Sew (2) pieces together leaving one 8” side open. Hem the
open edge to outside of pocket. Turn pocket so that the unfinished seams are on inside. Place pocket
on inside of coat and stitch to each side seam opening in coat. Be sure to tuck in all yarn tails
into seams as you sew.
Entire coat may be lined if desired.
