HAT (knit 2 pieces for front and back)
Cast On 38 stitches using Stockinette Stitch.

Place anchor yarn.

Knit 11 rows in Stockinette stitch.

Note: You are starting at Brim of Hat.

Decrease row for shaping: Dec 1 stitch at beginning and end of both boards.

You will make another 2 decreases in center of hat front.Place loops #16 on needle #15 and loops #30 on needle #31, counting from left side of board.

This will create 2 empty needles on each board.

Carefully, shift all stitches towards center, filling in the empty needles created by decreasing.

You will now have weaving on 34 needles on each board.

Weave all 34 sts in stockinette.

Hook over all.

At decreased st, be sure to lift both bottom loops over top to complete the decreases.

Work these 34 stitches in Stockinette for additional 10 rows.

Tan Accent Stripe: Tie in (B) at beginning of new row.

Do not cut the main color.

Lay the tails of yarn on knitting between boards.

You will be sewing the edges into seams and the tie-on will not show.

Start with row 1.

Repeat the chart (see above) until the entire row is complete and you have tan on every 5th needle.

Weave the needles from back to front to cover the stitch marked with the (T).

Drag the yarn to the next tan stitch in the row.

Follow the graph row 1 until all the (T) stitches are covered in tan yarn, front to back.

Lay (B) aside.Pick up (A).

Weave in stockinette stitch, skipping the needles covered with the tan yarn.

Hook over all needles.

Lay main yarn aside.

Follow the row 2 on the graph using the tan yarn starting from the right end and cover first 2 stitches, skip 2, cover 1, skip 3, cover 1.

Pick up the main color and weave all empty needles in Stockinette Stitch.

Hook over all.

Cut the main color and knot.

Row 3-6: Knit all using (B).

Row 7 & 8: Weave (B) in Stockinette skipping every 3rd needle.

Tie on (A) and cut (B).

Fill in the empty needles with main color.

Continue with (A) in Stockinette for additional 10 rows.

Decrease 1 stitch at 2nd needle from both ends.

Work row.

Work 10 additional rows in Stockinette to complete the hat.

Bind Off and Finishing
Cut double strand of (A) approximately 20" long to make anchor yarn across stitches.

Lay yarn between boards over last row of knitting.

Bind Off loosely over the anchor yarn.

This will be your hat top.

Bind off loosely at original anchor yarn with crochet hook at brim of hat.

Use 2 loop method or pull one loop through one loop across the anchor yarn for a smooth finish.

Knit Hat Back same as front.

Sew side seams together with invisible stitch to join the front and back of hat in matching yarns.

Tie anchor yarns together at top of hat to have one continuous yarn.

Pull yarn snugly and tie securely for top of hat.

Pull tails to inside of hat with crochet hook and trim.
