GAUGE:
9 stitches + 16 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in Stockinette Stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

NOTES:
Fun Fur rows are worked holding 2 strands of B and 1 strand of C together - 3 total strands of Fun Fur.

INSTRUCTIONS

PATTERN STITCH

Seed Stitch (multiple of 2 stitches)

Row 1 *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * across row.

Row 2 *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * across row.

PONCHO

Piece 1

With A, cast on 42 stitches.

Work 6 rows in Seed Stitch.

Changing to Stockinette Stitch, work 2 more rows.

Changing to 2 strands of B and 1 strand of C held together, work 4 rows in Garter Stitch (knit every row).

Change back to A and work 8 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Continue as established, working 4 rows in Garter Stitch with 2 strands of B and 1 strand of C held together, then 8 rows in Stockinette Stitch with A until 8 stripes of Fun Fur have been worked.

Next Row (right side) With A, work 2 rows in Stockinette Stitch, then work 6 rows in Seed Stitch.

Piece should measure approximately 27 inches [68.5 cm] long.

Bind off all stitches loosely (bound-off edge).

Piece 2

Work as for Piece 1.

FINISHING

With right sides facing, hold bound-off edge of Piece 1 to left side of Piece 2.

Starting at outside edge of Piece 1 and beginning of Piece 2, seam for 13 inches [33 cm] in toward center (see diagram), leaving 6 inches [15 cm] closest to neck open; this will become collar flap.

With right sides facing, repeat for other side by holding point A on Piece 1 to point A on Piece 2, and point B on Piece 1 with point B on Piece 2, then seaming in 13 inches [33 cm] as for other side.

Neck Opening

Fold flap (unsewn corner) of one side down to right side and sew in place.

Repeat for other side.
