GAUGE:

18 sts + 26 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Work this new stitch through the back loop.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

LACE PATTERN
Row 1 K 1, (yo, k2tog) to last st, k 1.
Row 2 Purl.
Repeat Rows 1-2 for pattern.

DRESS
BACK

Cast on 96 (100, 104, 108) sts. Work row 1 of lace pattern. Purl 1 row.
Next Row Skip first rep of lace pattern (k 2), cont in lace pattern across row. Continue in lace pattern, working one less repeat on every RS row and replacing it with St st until Row 1 is completely St st. Work even in St st until piece measures 21 (21, 20½, 20)" from beg, ending with a WS row.
Dec Row (RS) K 1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k 1. Repeat dec every 4th row 12 times more, then every other row 5 times – 60 (64, 68, 72) sts. Work even for 8 rows.
Inc row (RS) K 1, M1, k to last st, M1, k 1. Repeat inc every 6th row 6 more times – 74 (78, 82, 86) sts. Work even until piece measures 37" from beg.

Shape Armhole Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec Row K 2, k2tog, k to last 4 sts, ssk, k 2. Repeat dec every other row 5 more times – 56 (60, 64, 68) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7½", ending with a WS row.

Shape Neck and Shoulder Bind off 5 (5, 6, 6) sts, k 4 (5, 6, 7), join 2nd ball of yarn, bind off center 38 (40, 40, 40) sts, k to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 5 (5, 6, 6) sts at beg of next row; then bind off 4 (5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next
2 rows.

FRONT
Work as for Back, reversing lace pattern (omitting at end of row), until armhole measures 3½".
Shape Asymmetrical Neck K 14 (16, 18, 20), ssk, k 2, join 2nd ball of yarn, k 2, k2tog, k to end. Working both sides at once, rep dec at left front every 3rd row 8 (9, 9, 10) times more; and at right front every row 28 (29, 29, 30) times more. AT SAME TIME, when armhole measures same as Back, shape shoulder as for Back.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams. With RS facing and crochet hook, work 1 row single crochet evenly around neck and armholes. Weave in ends.
