GAUGE:
11 sts + 18 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS)
12 sts + 16 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in mock granny st BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
(k 1, p 1) in yo Knit into yo from previous row but do not drop yo from needle. Bring yarn to front and p into same yo. Drop yo from needle.
Note There are 6 increases and 6 decreases per repeat; you will have the same number of sts at the end of this row that you did when you began.

Row 1 of Mock Granny Stitch PatternFor L-1X size only – k2tog at beg and end of Row 1 – this makes an extra decrease on each side of section to accommodate pattern. Work Row 1 of Mock Granny Stitch Pattern across row – 106 (126) sts. Then work evenly in Mock Granny Pattern 22 (27) times until there are a total of 18 sts. Place remaining 18 sts on a st holder to work neck later.
FINISHING
Sew sections together from bottom of Scalloped Edge to neck, leaving one of the four seams open. Slip all neck sts onto needle. K 72 sts every row until neck edging measures 2 inches [5 cm], ending RS facing. Bind off all sts loosely in k.
