GAUGE:

6 stitches + 8 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in garter stitch (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

This pattern creates an "L"-shaped piece. To wear, drape the "legs" over your shoulders. The corner creates a point at the back. The openness of the knit makes it very drapey, and also somewhat challenging to measure. Don’t worry if your measurements aren’t exact.

NONCHO

Cast on 22 (26) stitches very loosely. Work garter stitch (knitting every row) until piece measures 24 (28) inches [61 (71) cm]. Bind off loosely. Do not cut yarn. Measure along one long side, marking halfway point with a safety pin. Using same yarn, pick up and knit 22 (26) stitches along long side between the last bound-off stitch and halfway point marked by safety pin. Work first row on these new stitches through the back loop. Continue in garter stitch until piece measures 12 (14) inches [30.5 (35.5) cm] from pick-up row. Bind off loosely.

Weave in ends.
