GAUGE:

17 sts + 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch (knit on RS, purl on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SWEATER

BACK

With A, cast on 54 (58, 64, 68) sts. Work stockinette stitch until piece measures 12½ (14, 14½, 15½) inches, ending with a WS row. Divide for back neck Knit 16 (17, 20, 21) sts, join new yarn and bind off center 22 (24, 24, 26) sts, k rem 16 (17, 20, 21) sts. Cont working both sides at once with separate balls of yarn until Back measures 13 (14½, 15, 16½) inches. Bind off.

FRONT

With B, work same as Back until piece measures 11 (12, 13¾, 14½) inches, ending with a WS row. Knit 19 (20, 24, 25) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 16 (18, 16, 18) sts. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st each neck edge every other row 3 (3, 4, 4) times – 16 (17, 20, 21) sts each side. Work even until piece measures same as Back. Bind off.

SLEEVES – Make 2

With C, cast on 28 (30, 30, 32) sts. Beg stockinette stitch, alternating colors C and D every 6 rows. AT SAME TIME, inc 1 st each side every 6^th row 5 (4, 5, 4) times and every 4th row 4 (8, 8, 10) times – 46 (54, 56, 60) sts. Work even until 8 (9 ½, 10 ½, 11 ½) inches from beg. Bind off.

FINISHING

Sew right shoulder seam. With right side facing and D, pick up and knit 64 (68, 70, 74) sts along neck edge. Work in stockinette stitch for 5 rows. Bind off loosely. Sew left seam, including neckband. Sew in Sleeves and sew sleeve and underarm seams.

I have made two of these sweaters. They are so cute and my granddaughters just love them. The only thing I have to say about the pattern is that it is too short. I knitted to gage but had to add to the length.
