GAUGE:
14 sts = 3 inches [7.5 cm] + 32 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Garter st (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

INSTRUCTIONS



PLACEMAT With A, cast on 48 sts. Knit 69 rows. Bind off all sts as if to knit. Side Edging With RS facing and B, pick up and knit 48 sts across cast on edge. Knit 8 rows. Bind off all sts as if to knit. Top and Bottom Edging With RS facing and B, pick up and knit 74 sts evenly spaced across top edge of placemat. Knit 8 rows. Bind off all sts as if to knit. Repeat along bottom edge. Weave in ends. ABBREVIATIONS: k = knit p = purlRS = right side st(s) = stitch(es)
