Felted Beret

Lion Brand® Lion® Wool

GAUGE:

15 sts + 20 rounds = 4 inches [10 cm] in circular St st (knit every round) before felting. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1 st) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Work this new stitch through the back loop.
S2KP (slip 2 as if to knit-knit 1-p2sso) Slip 2 stitches together as if to knit, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped sts over the knit st – 2 sts decreased.

NOTES:

Finished Beret size depends on how much the piece is felted. Keep in mind that you can always felt more, but once felting is done, it is not reversible.

It is best to begin the Beret on a circular needles and then switch to double-pointed needles when working the crown.

Felted Beret Reviewed by Saundra Neely on 2008-10-03 *****
I had never felted anything before and was a little apprehensive. Not to worry.........it worked great!

Since I'm also a beader, I made an ornament to go on it.
