SKILL LEVEL: Experienced
SIZE: Newborn, 3-6 mos Note: Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.
CORRECTIONS: (applied Jan 18, 2006) Yarn color in the finishing instructions was incorrect. It should read:
Cuffs: With RS facing, using size 4 needles and B, PU and k 60 (63) sts
evenly spaced along Sleeve edge. P 1 row dec 20 (21) sts as foll: P 1, p2tog;
rep from * across -- 40 (42) sts. Change to A and k 1 row, dec 15 sts evenly
spaced -- 25 (27) sts. Cont in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib. Using
matching colors, sew side and Sleeve seams. With RS facing, overlap the Corn
Fronts by 1" and pin to lower Front opening and sew invisibly through all
pieces, easing in fullness. Sew sides of A sections to openings on B Fronts. Sew
bottom ribs tog. Using A, work 1 row sc along each
Corn Front to the 1-inch overlap at neck edge, working 3 sc in corner. Sew Hood
to Body, beg and ending at the 1-inch overlap, matching colors and easing in
fullness of the B section of the Hood. Position snaps at center front as needed. The above is only a summary of corrections; the corrected pattern text is below (if free) or shipped upon completion of order (if purchased)

GAUGE: 26 sts = 4 in [10 cm]on size 5 needles in pat st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: PATTERN STITCHES:
Corn Pat (worked with A): Rows 1 and 3 (RS): K 1, p to last st, end k 1. Row 2: K 1, *(k 1, p 1, k 1) into the next st, p3tog; rep from * across, end k 1. Row 4: K 1, *p3tog, (k 1, p 1, k 1) into next st; rep from * across, end k 1. Rep Rows 1-4 for Corn Pat.
Husk Pat (worked with B): Row 1 (RS): *K 3, sl 1 as if to p; rep from * across, end k 3. Row 2: P. Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Husk Pat. |
NOTES: When changing colors, be sure to twist yarn on WS from underneath to avoid holes.

BODY:
Back: With B and size 5 needles, cast on 39 (47) sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib
for 1¾" inches end WS. Change to Husk Pat and work even for 1¼ (1¾)
inches. Maintaining pat, inc 1 st at each end every other row 20 times, working
added sts into Husk Pat -- 79 (87) sts. Work even in Husk Pat until piece meas
17 (18) inches from beg.
Sleeves: Cast on 28 (32) sts at end of next 2 rows -- 135 (151) sts. Work
even in Husk Pat until Sleeves meas 4½ (5) inches from cast on. Bind off all
sts.
Front:
Work as for Back for 2¾ (3¼) inches.
Divide for Front opening: Next Row (RS): K 3, sl 1, k 1 and place on holder
for Left Front, bind off 29 (37) sts, work last 5 sts as foll: k 1 (center
Front), sl 1, k 3 for Right Front.
Right Front only: Maintaining pat and working center Front even, inc at side
edge as for Back -- 25 sts. Work until piece meas same as Back to underarm, end
RS and cast on 28 (32) sts for Sleeve. Work even in Husk Pat until Sleeve meas
4½ (5) inches from cast on. Bind off all sts.
Left Front only: PU sts on holder for Left Front and work to correspond to
Right Front, rev shaping.
Corn Center Front (make 2): With A and size 5 needles, cast on 26 (34)
sts. Work in Corn Pat until piece meas 18½ (19 ½) inches from beg. Bind off
all sts.
HOOD: With B, cast on 19 (23) sts; with A, cast on 10 (14) sts. Work with
A in St st (k on RS, p on WS) and B in Husk Pat for 16 (16½)". Bind off.
Fold Hood in half lengthwise and sew Back seam invisibly. With RS facing, using
size 4 needles and A, PU and k 81 (87) sts along A edge. Work in k 1, p 1 rib
for 1". Bind off in rib.
FINISHING: Sew Fronts to Back at shoulder, leaving the center 29 (31) sts
of Back free.
Cuffs: With RS facing, using size 4 needles and B, PU and k 60 (63) sts
evenly spaced along Sleeve edge. P 1 row dec 20 (21) sts as foll: P 1, p2tog;

| This bunting bag is so adorable and relatively easy to make. My daughter also intends to use this as her child's first Halloween costume. I will also be knitting the corn cob as an additional piece.
