Additional Materials
Plastic pellets (from fabric store or upholstery store) or beans for stuffing. Note: Plastic pellets are sold for making 'beanbag' chairs, hacky sacks, etc. If you
use real beans, they will rot or sprout if the juggling ball gets wet!
Note: (the list below is for the assembly example shown in the instructions; blocks in the photograph also use #100 lily white, #153 cherry red and #153 black)
GAUGE:
20 sts + 36 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in garter stitch (knit every row) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.
INSTRUCTIONS
JUGGLING BALL
SIDE 1
With A, Cast on 10 sts. Knit until piece measures 2 inches.
Change to B. Knit until piece measures 4 inches
Change to C. Knit until piece measures 6 inches.
Bind off all sts.
SIDE 2
With D, Cast on 10 sts. Knit until piece measures 2 inches.
Change to E. Knit until piece measures 4 inches
Change to F. Knit until piece measures 6 inches.
Bind off all sts. Cut yarn, leaving a tail of approximately 18 inches.
FINISHING:
Assemble the two pieces into a solid as shown (this item is assembled in the same way as a baseball or tennis ball.)
Thread yarn tail into the large-eyed, blunt needle. Sew all the edges shut except oneNote: When you join a knitted or crocheted piece, you do so on the right side so you can see how the finished seam will look.Fill ball with stuffing through the edge that is still open.Sew last edge closed
