GAUGE:

Each pat rep = 4 1/8" [10.5 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Row 3 *P 4, (k 1, p 2) twice, k 1, p 4; rep from *.
Row 4 *(K 1, yo) twice, (k2tog-tbl, p 1, k2tog), p 1, (k2tog-tbl, p 1, k2tog), (yo, k 1) twice; rep from *.
Row 5 *P 5, (k 1, p 1) twice, k 1, p 5; rep from *.
Row 6 *K 1, yo, k 3, yo, slip1-k2tog-psso, p 1, k3tog, yo, k 3, yo, k 1; rep from *.

STOLE
Cast on 85 sts. Work in pattern st for 72" or desired length, ending with pattern Row 8. Bind off as if to purl.

I had to use size 13 needles to get the stated gauge, and found it irritating, on a beginner's lace project, to find no advice on unobtrusively weaving in the ends.
