Size 4 [3.5 mm] double-pointed needles (set of 5)
GAUGE:
24 sts + 28 rnds = 4 inches [10 cm] in St st (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.


INSTRUCTIONS



HAT

Cast on 48 (60, 72, 84) sts.

Distribute sts evenly on 4 needles and join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist.

Work in St st until piece measures 4 1/4 (5, 5 1/4, 6) inches [11.5 (12.5, 14, 15) cm] from beginning.

Shape Crown

Rnd 1 *K 4, k2tog; repeat from * - 40 (50, 60, 70) sts.



Rnds 2, 4, 6, and 8 Knit.



Rnd 3 *K 3, k2tog; repeat from * - 32 (40, 48, 56) sts.



Rnd 5 *K 2, k2tog; repeat from * - 24 (30, 36, 42) sts.



Rnd 7 *K 1, k2tog; repeat from * - 16 (20, 24, 28) sts.



Rnd 9 K2tog around - 8 (10, 12, 14) sts.



Rnd 10 K2tog around - 4 (5, 6, 7) sts.



Cut yarn, leaving a 6" [15 cm] tail.

Thread tail through remaining sts, and fasten off securely.

Weave in ends.
