SLEEVE: With No. 4 needles, cast on 27 sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Change to No. 6 needles. K 1 row and inc 7 sts evenly spaced-34 sts. Work Rows 24-26 of Leaf Pat. Work in St st hereafter, inc 1 st each end every 5th row 6 times-46 sts. Cont even until sleeve meas 5½ inches from beg. Bind off to gauge.

GAUGE:

5 sts and 7 rows = 1" on Size 6 needles in pat st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

BACK:
With No. 6 needles, cast on 94 sts. Work in St st for 12 rows. Work Leaf Pat Rows 1-38. Work in St st for 91/2" above last row of Leaf Pat, end with a RS row.
Next Row: P across dec 39 sts evenly spaced-55 sts rem. Change to No. 4 needles. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Change to No. 6 needles. Work in St st for 11/2".
Shape armholes : Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end every other row 3 times—43 sts rem. Cont even in St st until armholes meas 31/2". Bind off rem sts.

FRONT:
Work same as back through last row of Leaf Pat. Work in St st for 1", end with a WS row.
Divide work for Front Opening: Work 46 sts, attach new ball of yarn, bind off 2 sts, work rem 46 sts. Working both sides at the same time, work even in St st until fronts meas same as back to waist shaping, end with a RS row.
Next Row (WS) : P across dec 19 sts evenly spaced-27 sts rem on each side. Change to No. 4 needles. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Change to No. 6 needles. Work in St st for 11/2".
Shape armholes: Bind off 3 sts at each armhole edge once, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3 times-21 sts rem each side. Cont even in St st until armholes meas 2".
Shape neck: At center front bind off 4 sts once, 2 sts once, then 1 st twice-13 sts rem each side. Cont even in St st until armhole meas same as back to shoulder. Bind off rem sts each side.

With No. 4 needles, cast on 27 sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Change to No. 6 needles. K 1 row and inc 7 sts evenly spaced-34 sts. Work Rows 24-26 of Leaf Pat. FINISHING:
Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves; then sew sleeve seams. Sew side and bottom seam of bunting.
Neckband: With RS facing, using No. 4 needles, pick up and k 43 sts evenly spaced around neck edge. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib.
Right Front Button Band: With RS facing and No. 4 needles, pick up and k 83 sts evenly spaced along center right front opening. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib.
Left Front Buttonhole Band: With RS facing and No. 4 needles, pick up and k 83 sts evenly spaced along center front opening. Rib for 2 rows.
Buttonhole Row: Rib 4, (bind off 2 sts, rib 10) 6 times, bind off 2 sts, rib 5.
Next Row: Work in rib, casting on 2 sts over each set of bound-off sts. Rib for 2 more rows. Bind off in rib. Sew on buttons opposite buttonholes.

NOTE:
If you wish baby to be able to wear Bunting while in car seat, do not sew bottom seam. Bottom hem can be left as is (the stockinette stitch will naturally roll) or you can pick up stitches along bottom hem and knit a few rows of garter stitch (knit every row if working Back and Front separately on straight needles or alternate rounds of knit and purl if using circular needles to work in the round) to flatten it, adding buttonholes evenly spaced, if desired, along one side and sewing buttons opposite to match. Bottom hem may also be closed by sewing in a zipper or Velcro.

HOOD:
With No. 6 needles, cast on 64 sts. Beg at back of hood, k 1 row, p 1 row. Work Leaf Pat Rows 1-38. K 1 row. Change to No. 4 needles. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib. Fold hood in half and sew back seam of hood tog.
Shape neck edge: Leaving rib sts free, with RS facing and No. 4 needles, pick up and k 43 sts evenly spaced along lower edge of hood; then bind off these 43 sts. Sew ribbing to front rib and neck edge to neckband.

this pattern turned out beautifully. I did one in white with pastle butterfly buttons down the fron and across the bottom. I then entwined lavender along the botton and around the wrist and across the bonnet. I like the way the hood can lay back and just have the stand up collar if the baby gets fussy. Thanks so much for sharing.This is going to a new born in Iceland.
