Each Square measures 8 inches to 8½ inches. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

Use C for Finishing Row along side edges.

Join Squares in 7 strips with 5 Squares in each strip as foll: Strips #1, 3, 5, 7: Alternate 1 Square A horizontally and 1 Square B vertically until 5 Squares are joined.

Strips #2, 4, & 6: Alternate 1 Square B vertically and 1 Square A horizontally until 5 Squares are joined.

When 7 strips are completed, join strips alternately so that there is a checkerboard effect.
