Harry Potter Wizard Scarf
Lion Brand® Wool-Ease®
GAUGE:
18 stitches + 36 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in stockinette stitch (knit
a row, purl a row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Fringe
Cut strands of yarn approximately 9 inches [23 cm] long. For each fringe, hold 1 strands of yarn together and fold in half. Use crochet hook to draw fold through edge of garment, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten. Make 27 fringes evenly across each end of scarf, alternating colors. Trim fringe if necessary.
Harry Potter Wizard Scarf Reviewed by Gabrielle Dooha-Chambers on 2009-12-06
While this scarf has the colors down perfectly, for a true HP fan, and for an accurate (according to the books not the movies) looking scarf, each color should only be repeated for 22 rows each not 50 and you should have ten dark stripes and nine light stripes in the end (yes I am a nerdy fan who counted.) I've included a picture I made using this pattern with the aforementioned changes, and even though it's in Halloween colors, people still recognize it as an HP scarf.
