GAUGE:

12 sts + 16 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in Lace Pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them together.
PATTERN STITCH
Lace Pattern (multiple of 6 sts)
Row 1 (right side) *K 1, yo, ssk; repeat from *.
Row 2 and all wrong side rows Purl.
Row 3 *K 2, yo, ssk, k 2; repeat from *.
Row 5 *K 3, yo, ssk, k 1; repeat from *.
Row 6 Purl.
Repeat Rows 1-6 for Lace Pattern.

Cast on 56 sts.

Row 1 Slip first st as if to knit, knit to end.

Work Row 1 for 6 rows total.

Pattern Row 1 Slip first st as if to knit, knit 3, work Lace Pattern Row 1 to last 4 sts, knit 4.

Pattern Row 2 Slip first st as if to knit, knit 3, work Lace Pattern Row 2 to last 4 sts, knit 4.

Continue in pattern as established until piece measures 48 (51, 54) inches [122 (129.5, 137) cm] from beginning.

Work Row 1 of Poncho Pattern 5 times. Bind off loosely.

FINISHING

Sew short end to side edge. Weave in ends.

I really enjoyed knitting this. Very easy pattern and knits up quick. Agree with previous comment about knitting it shorter as the overall weight pulls it down a bit.
