10 stitches + 20 rows (10 ridges) = 4 inches [10 cm], approximately, in Garter stitch (knit every row). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

Poncho is made in 2 strips that are sewn together lengthwise.

PONCHO STRIP – Make 2 Cast on 22 stitches.

Work in Garter stitch, changing yarn as whim dictates, until piece measures 44 inches [112 cm].

Bind off loosely.

FINISHING Weave in ends.

Sew strips together along long edge to make larger rectangle, then sew short edge of Poncho to long edge as shown.

Point of Poncho can be worn to the front or side.
