GAUGE:
In Broken Rib pattern and using larger size needles, 16 sts and 27 rows = 4" (10 cm)
In Houndstooth pattern and using smaller size needles, 20 sts and 20 rows = 4" (10 cm) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Houndstooth Cardigan Reviewed by Melody Harris on 2009-03-04
I actually made this pattern in the very same colors shown (and 9 others), and it turned out to be the most requested item amongst my 'full-figured' customers! I made one for myself as well. They have ALL said (and I agree) that the off-centered buttons/buttonholes and the houndstooth pattern have a 'slimming' effect, and that it can be worn to the office, as well as on a casual night out,....I absolutely LOVE it!
